Fast Fun Friday - Milksicles

This week on Fast Fun Friday we are going to make an easy snack, that will keep your LO entertained for a few minutes. As parents about 90 percent of the time you have other obligations like cleaning, cooking, personal hygiene or just need a few minutes not holding your LO. If your baby is anything like mine they like to be held 100% of the time so any amount of entertainment is helpful.

I call this snack a milksicle. What you will need to make these is a mini ice cube tray. I got mine from Amazon. Then about 2 ozs of either Breast milk, formula or milk. A fruit of your choice, here I am using frozen strawberries. A blender or food processor to blend everything together. Lastly, a mesh or silicone food feeder.  I use the mesh ones by Munchkin or silicone ones by Boon.

First, add 2 ounces of milk and 2 frozen or fresh strawberries to the blender. You want to completely liquefy the strawberries and milk. Once you do that you are going to add your strawberry mixture to the ice cube tray. You want to make sure the ice cubes will fit into the feeder once they are frozen. If they do not you will have you use a knife to chop it into smaller pieces so they fit.  The ones in the photo will fit in either of the food feeders that I have previously mentioned.  After you have your tray filled, pop it into the freezer. Because they are small they should only take a few hours to freeze. Once they are frozen you can pop them out of the tray and place them in a milk saver bag or a freezer bag. I will keep them for about a month if they even make it that long.

MOM - Blue and Grey Skies

This week on MOM I'm doing a more simple look. Matching outfits don't have to be identical to match. This is one of my more casual, comfy but, still awesome looks. I ordered a custom size 2 piece jumpsuit from one of my favorite sellers on Etsy ElvenForest. I love this jumpsuit because you get the best of both worlds. First, this is a jumpsuit that you don't have to get naked to go the bathroom. Also, this jumpsuit is good for breastfeeding mommy. It gives you plenty of access and privacy with its cowl neck. They sell the pants in a flared style as well. I picked the gypsy style because I wanted the gray color. But, I'm glad I did because they are spectacular. A reason I like ordering from here is your ability to give your exact measurements. This way you don't have to worry about if it will fit. You will definitely be seeing this jumpsuit again in another edition of MOM in a different color or one of their other awesome pieces. Please note that these are custom and handmade items, so be kind to your Esty seller and give them the time it takes to create their masterpieces.

For my Little One, I found a sweet jumpsuit with snaps at the bottom for easy diaper changes. Then I made another pair of baby sandals with some elastic and ribbon from Joann's Fabrics. Click HERE for the tutorial.

This look is great for a day at the park, festival or concert. You can also, dress it up with some heels and dramatic makeup for a more night on the town look.

Mother's Room Upgrade!

I have been back to work for about 2 months now, and I pump 3 times a day for about 20 minutes. I am one of those lucky few that has a company that supports their breastfeeding journey. Recently I have found that not everyone is as lucky as me especially with the number of times I get to pump and the duration.

But I thought I might get a little bit more greedy with my Mother's Room situation. As I was pumping one day try out some of my suggestions I made on my 10 Things to do While Pumping blog entry, I noticed how bright the light was. I'm sure as most of you know the mother's room is usually a tiny room with a desk, chair, and fridge if that. But we also got an industrial sized fluorescent light. Oh yeah, that's relaxing. So I wanted to add a few things to our room to make the 3 times a day I visit it more pleasant, and not just for me for all the mothers. So here is a list of the things I think all mother's rooms should have. This way if something is forgotten or broken your day is not lost.

10 Things To Do While Pumping

So today while I was pumping I was scrolling aimlessly through Facebook when I came across a particularly nasty story about a breastfeeding mom being harassed. This upset me so much it I was completely distracted from doing what I needed to be doing. Also now I'm pumping my Milk while I was angry and we all know how emotions can affect our milk and it's production. So I want to make a list of things to do while you pumping that are more relaxing.

 - Listening to an audio book
Listening to your favorite book during pumping is a great way to pass the time and keep you relaxed. I came across the app Audible while I was on leave. I was watching way too much TV be needed something that would give me some background noise. They offer a free trial with 2 credits which is equivalent to 2 books. Great option to just try it out for FREE!

-Meditation
This is perfect for pumping since it's the most relaxed you can be. Also, will help you be relaxed for the rest of the day. Just turn off or dim the light if you can and do some deep breathing exercises.
-Listen to some music
This one's a no-brainer. Get your headphones and play some of your favorite music on your computer or phone. Then just sit back, relax and pump away.
-Look at pictures of your baby
This is by far my favorite thing to do while I pump. I just scroll through all the pictures on my phone (most of them are of my little one). This keeps me focused on the reason I pump in the first place. The best is if you have a video of them laughing!
-Read a book
Love to read a book over listening to one. Grab your favorite book or magazine and you're good to go.
 -Color draw or doodle
Just take a notebook and pen to the mother's room to pass the time. Can't draw or don't like to. Purchase a coloring book and some colored pencils. They have those interesting geometric color books that will definitely keep you busy.

-Knit or crochet or friendship bracelets
Remember those friendship bracelets you use to make at camp? These are perfect to pass the time. Or you can knit you sweet little one a hat and booties.
-Crosswords or Sudoku
Some brain teasers will keep your brain sharp and pass the time quickly.
-Meal/week planning
Sometimes you just don't have time for everything. But these pumping sessions are great for planning out your week or meals.
-Call a loved one
I love calling my mom during my pumping time. It is awesome keep in touch and she's a fabulous conversationalist. Make sure you call someone you can have a calm and happy conversation no need for added stress.

I hope you enjoyed these 10 pumping activities. Please comment any activities that you do while you pump. Thanks for reading.
